What Are People Thinking?

I have mentioned in a previous post or two that I live in a red state, in a very red county, and an extremely red town. These are MAGA lovers to be sure. I don’t get it. In a previous day and age, any untoward, unseemly, and expecially explicit criminal behavior would have an elected official and/or candidate, resigning, quitting, and slinking off to obscurity in abject shame.

That no long seems to be the case. My prime example is the former President of the United States, Number 45. Even before his first election the signs were there. He and his father had been found guilty of explicit racist behavior. They wouldn’t rent to black people. They had to pay a huge fine and open thier properties to everyone.

Then there is the Trump University. Found guilty of ripping off veterans. And the charity for children where the money went into the Trump family pockets. Really? People voted for this waste of space after he ripped off vets and kids.

So I don’t get it.

A sizable portion of the voters in the U.S. want this man to be elected again.

They want a person who has multiple guilty verdicts for racism, rape, and fraud, just to name a few. He’s on trial for stealing government classified documents, for undue influence on the Georgia elections, for tax fraud in NY, and for insurrection. Really? This is who these people want to be in charge?

Do you want someone who’s racist?

Do you want someone who’s a mysogynistic rapist?

Do you want someone who thinks dictators are good examples of leadership?

Do you want someone who thinks it’s okay to commit fraud?

Do you want someone who doesn’t pay his bills or his contractors?

Do you want someone who thinks veterans are losers?

Do you want someone who thinks it is a okay to kill their political opponents?

Do you want someone who has declared that as soon as he’s in office he’s going to round up everyone who’s brown and throw them in a concentration camp?

Do you want someone who thinks it’s okay to round up anyone who disagrees with him and throw them into a concentration camp?

Do you want someone who has declared, multiple times, that he’s going to take on the mantle of dictator?

Do you want someone who thinks women should be subservient and kept barefoot and pregnant with no medical care for when that pregnancy goes wrong?

I don’t think the majority of Americans agree with any of the above questions. I think the majority of Americans think anyone who espouses any of the above would be abhorrent.

So I ask you this. Look at the people running for office in your community. Look at the whole list, all the way down to school boards, dog catchers, and precinct committee persons. Campaign for the people who are working for the community you live in. Get them on the ballot. Vote for them. Encourage others to vote for them.

Your democracy depends on it.
