Avoid the Ultra-Right So Called News Outlets
I hear from many of my Republican friends that all of this election fraud news is so confusing. Is it just me or do you want to shout, “It’s not confusing! There wasn’t any voter fraud!” I know I want to bang my head on my desk every time I see someone say that.
It’s a shame that so many people get their news from these ultra-right media outlets. Who do I mean? For one, Fox News. I know the entertainment site (they claimed that’s what they were in a court of law) is not in favor with the far-right viewer at present, but still, the entertainers on their various opinion shows still vomit out the nonsense that Trump, his family, and his minions, say. In Fox’s defense, some of their commentators are beginning to back off. Not totally, mind you, but they have called the election for Biden, so some sort of clear-headed thinking must be taking place in the corporate offices.
Far worse is the OANN, One American News Network. This far-right cable so called news network was founded in 2013 but really began to take off when Trump was elected. This is what Obi Wan Kenobi would call a “…hive of scum and villainy.” Repeating every insane lie President Trump says, they are brain-washing the dullards who watch.
Even older is the much recently talked about conservative website called Newsmax. Pandering the mad followers of Trump, the site deals in conspiracy theory so bizarre, I suspect they pull their headlines from QANON. Trump has been promoting Newsmax over Fox News recently, going so far as to claim he’ll take over the site and turn it into Fox’s greatest rival. The site published op-ed pieces by a fake persona, including a fake bio and photo. They also have greatly softened their stance on Qatar, who sought to acquire a major stake in the site to gain clout over news presented in the United States. Since Qatar is considered a major state sponsor of terrorism, it would make sense they’d want a news outlet that was friendly to them. Finally, like many of these other outlets, Newsmax called the Covid-19 pandemic a scam and sent marketing email to its subscribers that getting a vaccination against the coronavirus was one of the worst things they could do.
Then, of course, is QANON. Originally founded to purport a single conspiracy theory. This from Wikipedia.org, “A far-right conspiracy theory alleging that a cabal of Satan-worshipping pedophiles is running a global child sex-trafficking ring and plotting against US President Donald Trump, who is fighting the cabal.” Read that out loud. Sounds ridiculous, right? It has progressed into some Mad Max style cultish fringe movement linked to crimes, per the New York Post, https://nypost.com/article/what-is-qanon-conspiracy-theory/ . CNN reported https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/03/us/what-is-qanon-trnd/, that the site’s followers now make baseless allegations and theories about mass-shootings, this year’s election, and also claim that the pandemic is being spread by 5G cellular networks.
You want to know why your Republican friends have lost their minds? It’s because of these and other ultra-right-wing media outlets who spread so many lies, so much dis-information, that they have lost touch with reality.
There’s an old saying. If you tell a lie often enough, convincingly enough, people will believe it. It was the very model of Hitler’s Nazi’s and it is certainly President Trump’s modus operandi. Just because the President says there was voter fraud, doesn’t mean there was. It just means that after saying it would happen for months, and then after election day saying it happened, people, especially the people who watch the above media, have started to believe it.
Were clerical mistakes made during the election. I suspect so. Not millions of them, though. These mistakes happen every election and in the process of verifying, certifying the election, these are caught and corrected. It’s just part of the way elections work, and procedures are in place to catch these very few errors.
So, stop watching the real fake news and come back to reality. You’ll be less confused.
