What the GOP is Missing

The multi-trillion-dollar bill to improve infrastructure in the United States has been mired in political controversy since it was introduced. It’s a shame, really, as the U.S. infrastructure is not only an ancient, collapsing mess that Europeans laugh at, but it’s downright dangerous.

We’ve been getting reports for decades now that our own Civil Engineers give our roads, bridges, tunnels, seaports and airports low marks for structural integrity and safety. Many bridges in the U.S., they say, are unsafe. People want those things fixed.

It’s the new things in the bill, though, that really tweak…

Business as Usual

A headline today caught my eye. This one from Reuters, (R) Senator Mitch McConnell was quoted as telling corporations to stay out of politics. Then he threatened them.

Bad move, Mitch. Business has been involved in politics from before the country was founded. Telling them now that they need to keep their opinions to themselves is just a bit disingenuous. After all, for the last few decades, the Republican Party and corporations have been hand in glove. They tell the Republicans that they don’t like the government to regulate their businesses, the Republicans comply by squashing any…

They Should Be Reviled Again

Officially, of course, there aren’t Nazis anymore. Nazis were members of a German political party that took over their democratically elected government. Hitler, leader of the party since 1921, was appointed Chancellor of the country by its President, Paul von Hindenburg in 1933. Hitler then turned the country into a totalitarian regime called the Third Reich.

Today’s racist, genocidal groups are based on the Nazi policies. Now we call them White Supremacists, or White Nationalists, or even Neo-Nazi’s though there’s no difference between the old Nazis and the new ones. …

The Basic Republican Party Platform?

I live in a state in which the Republican controlled legislature is working hard to suppress the votes of the state’s citizens. I already know the why. They’re afraid of being out-voted in the next election. These Republicans, like many in other Republican controlled states, are both outraged and afraid that the state’s voters are turning away from the Republican Party.

My question is, why are the state’s rank and file Republican voters not calling, mailing, and emailing these representatives and putting them back on the democratic track? Removing people from the voter rolls, making…

Where My Sense of Dread Is Gone

I got up this morning, January 21st, 2021, without that sense of dread I’d felt every morning since November 2016.

I didn’t have to ask my husband, who gets up earlier than I do, “What stupid thing has the President done now?” And by “stupid” I mean ignorant, illegal, hateful, spiteful, or cruel, just to name a few.

Instead, I got up to the news that the new President has rejoined the U.S.A. to the world community by reentering us in the W.H.O. and the Paris Climate accords. Environment killing laws/policies have been…

Trump: A Criminal Name

Thoughts about what I want to say in this post have been swirling around in my head for weeks. It’s not enough for me to say, “I don’t like Trump.” If you’ve read any of my previous posts, that’s pretty evident. I need to express, I think, the why of it. Why do I think this barely human, wanna-be dictator, is such a poisoned-pill and deserving to be both impeached and convicted?

First. He learned at his father’s knee. The father was a criminal. He taught his son to be a criminal. I want to say…

Avoid the Ultra-Right So Called News Outlets

I hear from many of my Republican friends that all of this election fraud news is so confusing. Is it just me or do you want to shout, “It’s not confusing! There wasn’t any voter fraud!” I know I want to bang my head on my desk every time I see someone say that.

It’s a shame that so many people get their news from these ultra-right media outlets. Who do I mean? For one, Fox News. I know the entertainment site (they claimed that’s what they were in a court of law)…

My Opinion on Where the U.S. is Now

It’s been a struggle, that’s for sure, and for both sides of the American political spectrum. Over the last few months, I’ve talked to people I know, both Republican and Democrat. The thing I noticed the most? They’re all afraid.

Many of my GOP friends are concerned, and still are, of the U.S. becoming an unchristian nation. They actually fear that the country will feel the wrath of God over birth control, LGBTQ rights, abortion, and many other things. That’s why when MAGA folk are interviewed on TV, they site Trump’s Christianity…

Do You Still Want to Vote for Him?

I copied a list of President Trump’s thuggery from McSweeney’s internet site in July 2020. As you read through it, it’s just mind-boggling. Even before he began his run for the American presidency, he was a complete tool on Twitter and elsewhere.

From the Obama birther conspiracy to groping young women at his Miss America pageants, he revealed himself long before his candidacy announcement. Perhaps people thought that since Reagan was a good president, at least for the top 1% of the country, Trump would also be a good president. After all…

Coronavirus Compared to 9/11

The remembrance for 9/11 was just a few days ago. All of us alive at the time and old enough to know what was going on, knows where we were and what we were doing at the time the World Trade Center towers were hit.

For me, it was sheer disbelief. It was an accident. No one in their right minds would deliberately fly an airliner into a building. The idea was so monstrous none of us could get our minds around it. But they did. On purpose. With malice aforethought. It took me all day…
